P 58NETWORK SHE passion for baking and a head for business is proving a successful combination for award winning bakery Siwgr a Sbeis. The Llanrwst based bakery has just scooped yet more gold stars from the national Great Taste Food Awards, sponsored by the Guild of Fine Foods, for their mouth watering confectionary. Now along with their award winning blackcurrant flapjacks they can lay claim to baking winning Rich Fruit Cakeand Florentines, which each gained a gold star in their respective categories. Rhian Williams and Rhian Owen, both 43, owners and joint directors of Siwgr a Sbeis, are absolutely delighted with the recognition for their produce and put their continued success down to using traditional baking skills alongside receiving massive support from their accountants Gardner Salisbury. Rhian Williams explains: " Without the support of our accountant John Gardner of Gardner Salisbury, we wouldn't be where we are right now. He's helped us in so many ways and the fact that he took time to understand our business has meant he's been able to offer practical advice that's proved extremely beneficial – of course our baking skills have also helped! " We always use traditional baking methods combined with the finest of ingredients and winning gold stars in the Great Taste Food Awards is something we're really proud of, especially as we're the only bakery in Wales that has gained recognition in the Rich Fruit Cake with Alcohol category – and we're so pleased we've decided to use that as our main Christmas cake." The entrepreneurial pair began their dream of creating delicious cakes while still at school where Rhian and Rhian became firm friends. They then went on to study bakery and confectionary together at Wrexham College and their first rung of the business ladder started in 1989 when they leased a shop and bakery in the market town of Llanrwst - and Siwgr a Sbeis was born. Since then Siwgr a Sbeis have gone from strength to strength and now own a purpose built bakery, which was officially opened in 2007 and now employ 20 people. October 2008 will also see the launch of their brand new website featuring their entire range of products – more than 80 in total. AwardA winning welsh bakery rises above the rest |
