Q: The legal market in the UK has been undergoing dramatic changes. How are you improving your service to your clients?Ben: We are very alive to the fact that, in a changing marketplace that affords more choice than ever before, we need to continue to innovate and improve to retain the loyalty of our clients. We will continue to be guided by what is in the long-term interests of our clients and our investment in efficiencies and our people goes some way towards that. But we will also continue to lead the thinking in our specialist sectors - and we are always delighted that such a high proportion of people here achieve 'Leaders in their Field' status each year. In the last year that increased to 48 partners representing 70% of the partnership. We believe that such an approach enables us to give the most valuable advice, whether our clients have a complex situation that needs a very bespoke solution or they require a more straightforward approach."During my time as Chambers & Partners UK Editor, Farrer & Co was the archetype - almost the definition - of a firm that 'punched above its weight'. Despite - or perhaps because of - its partners' legendary discretion, Farrers regularly received more individual rankings, viewed in proportion to its size, than almost any other London-based outfit. This speaks volumes for the firm's reputation throughout the market for high quality and integrity."Ross Cogan ex-Editor, Chambers & Partners Legal DirectoryQ: How do you see the future for Farrers and its clients?Henry: Exciting but challenging. There is so much potential to assist clients in many more ways than they might have realised for both their benefit and to the satisfaction of the firm.At the same time we value our independence, we remain committed to ensuring we build a sustainable business that is in the strongest possible position to face the challenges of the future for the future partners, staff and clients of the firm.Achievements & Ambitionsintuition InventionWe think that it is only by truly understanding our clients that we can find solutions that work for them.10Farrer & Co | 2010 ReviewFarrer & Co | 2010 Review11

Charities1st Tier*" It has fantastic levels of dedicated service."" This incredibly well-established team has a loyal client base and is viewed as one of the bastions of the sector. Most notably, the team was heavily involved in the merger of Age Concern England and Help the Aged, advising the transition board of the two charities on the merger. This was one of the largest charity mergers. Other merger work includes advising P3 on a series of successful mergers with King's Cross Homelessness Project, Kilburn Youth Centre and Unique." Chambers Directory 2010 This year we have spoken on a range of issues at our seminars for trustees, The Charities Property Conference, The Charities Investments Forum, The Charities Facilities Management Conference and Charity Finance Live. Here we shared our experience about mergers from our Age UK work and were delighted to be named Society of Trusts & Estates Practitioners Charity Team of the Year. We also acted in the very first case to go before the new Supreme Court.Specialist Sectors*These sectors reflect categories in the legal directories Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 and where we are ranked in the highest tiers based on feedback from the marketplace.
